WA: Stand-off at Perth prison continues

PERTH, April 6 AAP - More than 40 prison guards are protesting outside one of Perth's
main jails today after they were locked out over a union dispute.

The Community and Public Sector Union (CPSU) said its members were escorted from the
Acacia prison site yesterday after they tried to hold a union meeting following the suspension
of a union delegate.

CPSU branch secretary Toni Walkington said worries over inadequate staffing levels
had prompted the original meeting.

"Members believe staffing on some rosters is inadequate and places custodial officers
at risk," Ms Walkington said.

She said prison officers would remain outside the gates of the prison on Great Eastern
Highway for the rest of the day.
