Vic: Psychiatric bans remain in place

Work bans will be maintained in Victoria's psychiatric treatment centres until at least
Thursday, the next scheduled meeting of nurses seeking a pay rise from the state government.

The nurses, members of the the Health and Community Services Union have imposed work
bans in support of an eight per cent pay rise and demands which include specialised training
and professional development.

Union secretary LLOYD WILLIAMS has told ABC radio that talks in the Industrial Relations
Commission yesterday made some progress, even though the State Government won't offer
any more than a three per cent pay rise.

Up to 4,000 workers -- including psychiatric nurses -- imposed bans last week on non-clinical
duties such as admission and discharge paperwork.
