At 15, she reaches 'pinnacle of women's baseball'

Lindsay Horwitz started playing baseball when she was 4.

"My brother played, and that got me wanting to play," says thenow-15-year-old Gurnee girl. "I wanted to be like him."

A natural athlete with a fierce competitive streak, Horwitz soonfound baseball was more than a chance to emulate her brother. Sheliked the game and was good at it.

Eschewing softball, Horwitz stuck with baseball, often as thelone -- and sometimes unwelcome -- girl on boys' teams.

Now, her persistence has paid off: Horwitz has been named to USABaseball's National Women's Team. She'll be with the national teamfor a Labor Day weekend tournament in North Carolina againstnational …
