The Roxbury Multi Service Center had just finished a $1.9 million rehab of their 24-unit Columbia Road homeless shelter when residents and staff began to look at the condition of their grounds.
The three-story building was surrounded by a dirt patch that could use sprucing up. The shelter's director, Cynthia Brown began soliciting help for the beautification project, securing help from neighbors and the Boston law firm Hanify & King.
After several nurseries offered $8,000 in plants, shrubs, soil and equipment, staff members, shelter residents and neighbors helped fill in new top soil and plant the ornamentals.
