Former Gov. Hugh Carey received the top award bestowed by the University at Albany Foundation.
Carey's children Nancy Carey Cassidy and Kevin Carey accepted the Citizen Laureate Award on Thursday at the Hall of Springs in Saratoga Springs on his behalf.
Cassidy said the award was a recognition of her father's tenure in office.
"The longer my father is out of office, the more people realize how transformational a governor he was," she said.
This is the 30th anniversary of the Citizen Laureate Award, which is given to leaders in business and industry, government and academia.
