Vic: Vic water powers are secure, Thwaites says
MELBOURNE, Feb 22 AAP - Victoria is confident the federal government cannot override
its constitutional rights on water, even if other states agree to give up their own.
State and territory leaders are due to meet Prime Minister John Howard in Canberra
tomorrow to discuss a $10 billion water rescue plan for the Murray-Darling basin, which
includes handing control of the water to the federal government.
Victorian Premier Steve Bracks has said he will not sign on to Mr Howard's "shoddy"
