HELENA, MT -- The following information was released by Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks:
State Parks
Start anticipating summer fun by reserving your campsite at one of twenty Montana State Parks. A new reservation system, intended to help families plan their vacations, will be available beginning at 8 a.m Wednesday, March 30. Visitors can phone a toll free number or use the internet to make reservations up to nine months in advance or as close as two days prior to their visit.
Montana State Parks will be using a private reservation provider, ReserveAmerica, to handle reservations for the State Parks Division. Tom Reilly, Assistant Administrator for State Parks, says "when people plan their vacations, they want to take some stress out of their vacations by being able to confirm they have a place to stay. They also want to be able to camp near their friends and family. By providing this service for our guests, we are trying to alleviate some of their stress."
Call center staff will be able to help visitors select sites that will accommodate their camper size, number of people and pre-pay fees. This information along with photos, campground maps, site descriptions, and travel directions will also be available on the web site. A processing fee of $10.00 will be charged for each reservation.
Twenty of Montana's 54 state parks will participate in the reservation system, but not all campsites will be reservable. Reilly said these remaining sites will accommodate "walk-in" visitors on a first come first serve basis as they do now. Some parks have cabins, yurts or tipis available which can also be reserved.
State Parks Administrator Chas Van Genderen predicts that with gas prices expected to rise again this summer, Montanan's will be looking for recreation close to home. "By offering reservations, it will help people relax knowing they have a campsite waiting for their family after work on Friday night. Friends and family can plan to meet at a park and be camped near each other."
Visitors will be able to make reservations beginning March 30 for the peak season of May 27 - September 5 by calling: 855-922-6768 toll free between 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. weekdays and 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. weekends; or go to campmt.com on the web.
